If you recently received notification from your current federal student loan servicer that your loans will be transferring to MOHELA, welcome to MOHELA! Please
refer to the following transfer information.

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) has transferred the customer service of your federal student
loan account from your current federal student loan servicer to MOHELA, another member of ED’s federal loan servicer team. Your loans were not sold. ED
will continue to own your loans; however, MOHELA will manage your loans and assist you on ED’s behalf as your
federal student loan servicer. This change
in servicer will not impact the existing terms, conditions, interest rate or available repayment plans of your federal student loans.
Your full account details should be available no later than 10 business days after the loan transfer date included in the transfer notification
sent from your current federal student loan servicer.

What to Expect for Before, During, and After the Transfer
Your prior servicer will send you a transfer notice before the transfer occurs.
This is typically sent 15 days prior to the transfer date. The notice includes a Q&A and the future effective date of the transfer.
Transfers are sent to MOHELA on the effective date.
Please allow approximately 10 business days after the effective date for the transfer to complete.
All documents received by your prior loan servicer that have not been processed are sent to MOHELA for processing.
Generally, documents are processed within 30 days after the transfer effective date.
All payments received by your prior servicer that haven’t been posted to your account before transfer are sent to MOHELA for processing.
Payments are generally processed within 30 business days of the transfer effective date and are effective as of the date your prior servicer received the payment.
What is happening on MOHELA’s end?
Transfer information is received by MOHELA on the effective date.
Please allow approximately 10 business days after the effective date for the transfer to complete.
Account details will not be available until after the transfer is complete. Keep in mind, PSLF information may take additional time to become available.
A welcome notification is sent to you after the transfer process is complete.
This occurs approximately 10 business days after the transfer is received. The notification will include a Q&A and loan information.
Create a web account.
When the transfer is complete, you’re ready to create your MOHELA.com User Name/Password.
Account details will not be available online until after the transfer is complete. Keep in mind, PSLF information may take additional time to become available.
MOHELA has your full loan details available.
Please allow 2-3 business days after the welcome notification has been sent to you for your full loan details to become available.
MOHELA processes payments and documents sent over from your prior federal student loan servicer.
Everything is generally processed within 30 business days. Payments will be made effective as of the date your prior servicer received the payment.
