Repaying Your Student Loans

Federal education loan programs offer lower interest rates and more flexible repayment plans than most other loans. The Federal Government is able to offer you a variety of repayment options when it comes to making monthly payments on your educational loan. Some of these plans have shorter repayment terms as low as 10 years and others may take longer to repay - up to 25 years.

There are several repayment plans for Federal education loans, consisting of Standard Repayment and some alternatives. Each of the alternatives has a lower monthly payment than Standard Repayment, but this extends the term of the loan and increases the total amount of interest repaid over the lifetime of the loan. In general, the longer the repayment period, the more interest you will pay and the more expensive the repayment option.
